Cat
Can I feed my cat on vegetarian food?
- No. Whereas we humans, and even dogs, are able to manufacture within our
bodies all the nutrients we need from a good-quality vegetarian diet, the
cat is such a specialized hunter that during its evolution if has lost this
ability.
- A deficiency of the amino acid taurine, an essential building block for
proteins in the body, can cause both blindness and heart failure. Moreover,
severe loss of condition and skin problems can be caused be a deficiency of
certain essential fatty acids found only in animal flesh.
- By all means stick to a vegetarian diet for yourself; but if you are to
keep a cat, you must accept the fact that they are born carnivores.
You may find a complete dry diet more aesthetically acceptable to handle than
canned or fresh meat.
