Many shorthaired cats are perfectly able to look after their coats by themselves,
but not all cats seem to manage as well as others, especially when they are
ill or if they are elderly.
If you plan to comb your shorthaired cat, a fine comb should be used to
remove any knots, followed by a rubber brush, which will remove dead hair
and skin cells without scratching the skin.
A slightly dampened cloth can be used to massage the skin and smooth down
the coat.
