How can I train my cat to relieve itself outdoors?
Some cats become so used to using their litter trays that they refuse to
perform anywhere else, and will come rushing indoors if they feel the urge.
This is particularly common in young cats that have just started going outdoors,
and will often correct itself naturally.
In some cases, however, this behavior persists, and many owners resent
having to clean out the tray.
Do not remove the litter tray, as the cat may then start urinating elsewhere
indoors, and this can be a difficult habit to break once it starts.
Leave a door open when the cat is out, and move the litter tray towards
the outdoors step by step. You can even spread some used cat litter in the
parts of the yard that you don't mind your cat using as a toilet area.
Once your cat gets used to using the litter tray out of doors, you can
then safely remove the tray entirely.
