GPs at Australia

I was holidaying at Australia-Adelaide 2 weeks back & caught some piggies on camera to share here. The 1st 4 pics were taken at the Zoo. The piggies were just let loose in the fenced area. The helper just fed them some fruits so I took the opportunity to request to carry one of the gp.Normally the gps are not handled by visitors. The other 2 pics were taken in 2 diff pet shops. Both the pet shops were selling the gps at AUS$10..cheap ah! I saw a castle kind of house for the gps but the entrance was abit too small for my gp so I cldn't buy it for my fatty gp. The 1st pic - the GP 2nd from bottom...the tummy so big!!! is it pregnant??

Haiz..... the pigs in aussie so good life! the pigs in singapore zoo damn pathetic! fence up in a 3ft by 3ft wooden cage.... the bedding is filled and soil with their own poos... they have hair lost or barbering pigs.... only seen hay in the enclosure as food(maybe pellets all eat fin liao by e time i reach there, last 2 weeks ago) and constantly harressed by kids.... u want e most tame pigs? go singapore zoo.... the cavy there to used to kids touching them.... :(

Yep! They have rabbits, gpigs, mice, and chicks at the children's world. If there's no zoo keeper to catch you, you can carry the animals too.

Oh yah...if any of you have friends who want to give their pigs or rabbits to the zoo, tell them not to because they will end up as food for the tigers and lions. I heard this from a friend who used to work at the zoo.

i don tink they will be so cruel as in to fed cavy to those lion ba.. u kan actually carry da cavy if u wan but its quite dirty la & they haf got alot of babies cavy there .. if u lucki u kan get to see it ..

tt tum i go there .. i ask da guy incharge how to different male or female cavy .. den he told mi by looking at da nipples .. female 1 got nipples.. male 1 don haf =_=

but I have heard of ppl rearing snakes feed them with free hamsters/mice that some ppl gave them away... :shocked:

Yes...This information is true. Those ignorant people who think that by leaving their pets outside the zoo & they will be in safe hands & good care, they will be shocked (or maybe not, as they have the heart to abandon them) becoz in actual fact they'll be served as meals to the carnivores. :mad:

They do have piggies in the singapore zoo.. the children's world there.. was there a few weeks ago.. here are some pictures i took. There quite a lot of em and they're really cute. But there's a sign saying no touching or carrying above the exhibit. hehe.. but who listens? :D

I almost stole this baby guinea pig back.. lol. It was so small, it could fit into my bag. It's so cute! :fluffy:

Cruel, yes. But it's just a way of life, and a way to save money...the big cats need to eat so the older or not-so-pretty rabbits/gpigs would be killed for their dinner. The zoo never runs out of lil pets cos of those members of the public who don't want their pets anymore and decide to 'donate' to the zoo cos they think their lil pets will live out the rest of their lives in the children's section.

Besides...the lion's and tiger's lives are deemed more important than those of the lil pets. I mean, the tourist would rather look at cheetas and lions rather than rabbits or guinea pigs.

Anyway, I do agree that it's cruel but if you put emotions aside, it's actually quite practical.

Glad that u guys enjoyed the pics...a small kid actually asked the zoo keeper how many gps there were. The keeper laughed & said she's lost count! hehehe. So the kid's father asked him to count the gps by himself. Very cute hearing the conversation between them.

By the way I thought that orange cannot fed that much because of the acidic content right?

I feel that maybe in Zoo, its quite "normal" for them to use small mammals to feed the carnivores cos of their great appetite and to be honest, people prefer watching the carnivores in zoo! So they feel that their existence in zoo is much more important since they are the lead. IF one day, I donate my J J there and kana eaten up, will cry in pails sia!

Sharrel why didnt you take it home instead if you wanted to? At least he/she will feel more fortunate and by the way for them taking one guinea pig is like plucking off a strand of grass only... Maybe if go there I also wanna Kapo! Hehehe... Taking it as a recuing deed yah? =p

orange is good for gp but the problem is too juicy …and it easy to get dirty & wet. I dun mind to feed them once a week but u need to clean it up as soon as they finished it before the fly share it :D

haha...so funny....anyway, from what I know, they'll release the animal inside ALIVE then the big cat will chase it macam play hide & seek like that...it's proven to stimulate the carnivore's mind to prey on living things...always feed them prepared meat like going to Seoul Garden like dat...

I really pity the small animal and can really empathize with them when they are hiding somewhere in the lions' den with days numbered...can u imagine if u r placed inside the lions' den? How would u feel? Aiyoh....really will pee inside the pants man...somemore piggies quite clumsy...think very fast they'll b in the stomach of the cat liao....
