huh ?...can't figure up why can't you have a gp as a beginner.
Unless you r not ready or prepare to have one before bringing a (one) gp to your home for a start ? ask; r u ready ? r u going to prepare & responsible for any circumstances that it might be happened to yr new gp ? Suggest u to check out some of the useful websites or get some basic cares...yes basic things... and i am sure that the ppls here r willing to help you ..cheers:)

they are terrified, coz they not familar with u yet
try not to make sudden movement when u are near them, offer nice food (carrot slices/ leafy veggy) to tempt them. When they eat it, dun straight away pet them coz u too happy...they will thought u 'tricking' them and dun trust u when u give food next time :fishing:
instead, give it time lo abt a few days... then slowly sayang him/her often.Put ur hands in more often, be it just to pat him, or to scoop poo/pee.
GPs by nature are timid animals. They will hide by instinct coz to them you are a giant! if u are the owner, make sure u are the one who feed it, clean the cage, etc so it can get used to your scent & not so afraid of human beings.
Dun make their cage have high storeys, coz GPs sense of height is lousy...change the beddings 2x a week or more often(is better), so tt they dun smell bad. When they do, give it a bath using small animal shampoo & towel dry then hair dry them.
You can search google/Yahoo for other info...sometimes when u need info, we might not able to help instantly. :bowtie:

Try guinealynx webbie. A good webbie for guinea pigs care.
Jaja123, I thought you will be buying guinea pigs for your cousin?
And they will be afraid of you in the first place which is of course! As other members said, they do not familiarise with you yet. You need damn few days for it to eat in front of you without the sense of fear. And try to play with it while you can at home.

Haha...no such thing lah..different piggies have different temperament mah....sometimes whether are they nibby or not depends on their mood also...they do have mood swings sometimes.... :D Actually anything that has teeth will bite...Including u and I when provoked...don't u agree?
To all new gp owners.....pls read up more in order to learn more abt GPs...actually it shld b done before ur piggy comes home...becoz some mistakes, if major enough, will cause fatalities...and also never buy pets as presents to friends or relative becoz u won't know whether they like it or not...it might end up on the streets or the SPCA...

then i'm pretty sure my guinea pig is mostly in foul mood when i handle her LOL she always seem to leave teeth marks on my fingers and a couple of them actually broke skin :( so dunno why also but after prolong of messing ard her , she has seem to tone down her bitting to just nibbling so i'm contented at this very moment
i actually did spend time reading up webbie .. its the bitting part tat got me puzzled and looking for help LOL

wah mintsweet your pig is so vicious! haha. about the biting thing, i think i read somewhere that adolescent pigs (ard 4-5 mths old) actually do bite or nibble...like they're going thru some difficult growing up phase like that. i noticed that mine bites too, but not that hard...maybe like a nibble. and she tends to bite people whose scent she may not recognise (ie: friends who come to my house and stick their fingers into her cage with essence of food on them).

yar lor now then u know ah LOL my pig very spunky but i tink she only recognise my scent as Bitable . sent her to groomer , groomer say she very guai , bf hold her say she only lick his fingers ... den bf laugh at me say she love me too much must bite*holds blanket and cry in a corner* so depressing lay if she keep bitting me but now okays lar only the occasional nibble and licking no more biting till leave teeth mark liao so for NOW she's still okays
LOL i hope ur fren's fingers still intact hahaha :x

haha...really? bites everyone? My god..... :) think can discipline them when they bite...just make a loud squeak or scream on top of ur voices when they nib...they'll be startled by the sound and look at u...some GPs that are more garang will try a few more times to test water i.e. see whether ur scream is purely coincidence at the pt of time when he/she nibbed...then u juz squeak/scream/shout whenever he/she nibs again...seems to b quite effective...ur piggy is bullying u for sure...likes to jiak(eat in Hokkien) u...Dun give up so easily n give in to ur piggy...jia you!

:P: seriously i tink that really works .. i "TSK" very loudly and my pig will stop bitting and look at me then for a few secs later she will bite me again and i will "TSK" again so can imagine me like mad woman when my pig keeps biting me "TSK TSK TSK TSK" LOL . After that i tried another method , i use another finger to tap her butt and that finally stopped her habit of biting me for now , maybe next time i try to delibrately mishandle her and see if she bite me or not LOL (dunno how to write the word die)

Sometimes I dunno is he deliberately bites everyone or what cos some are licking then try to bite, and some of it is he kana provoked, like keep on sticking out the fingers towards him, the he will bite really hard. Haha... My queen told me before that he did jump and trying to bite her and I was shocked... Haha... And when I combed his fur, sometimes I accidentally make the brush touched his leg (the fur covering, dunno where's the leg) then he will squek. At times when brushing him he will thought I was trying to do something against him and he will turn around and bite. I quickly siam and say him "Bite me?!" Hmm yah I kana bullied by him loh, Haiz!
