just bought 1 box yesterday...
and feed my piggies.
usually using normal brands, they will eat.
but today i top up the hayball full, come bck 5pm still half left...usually leftvery very little bit.
Is only their 2nd day to try the APD hay, dun tell me they dislike it ahahaa coz i got 1 box. But i smell the hay, it smells ncie & very green..but very soft ..isit the correct type? coz usually i buy timothy hay is quite coarse feeling (on hand).
maybe i should give them time to adjust....
coz tt time after i give Vitapol then change Haypro, they 1st day dun wanna eat it. Then as the month went by, they ate it like no tomolo. :star:
am i worrying too much :birthday:

I don't have problems with APD hay tho.
perhaps u need to mix and switch slowly.

Mix and match... I always give Orchard grass both in rack and ground area and APD put some on ground area (expensive leh!) As usual, he still eats both of them through seeing on the ground. Dont worry, they just need time like ppsamm mentioned. :cutie:

Yep...mix the APD with your usual hay first. Give the piggies time... :)

Just leave it there until they eat lor...they'll learn if u starve them a little...don't spoil them too much...that's what I do & eventually they'll eat it... :D

hmm i guess i have no problems now...
i guess they sense the smell is different
so they dun bother to try
...but should be ok lah,
coz i dowan to give up
wad i do just now is to pull some hay strands from the ball & offer to the pig...
they eat it...
i pull again, they eat from my hands....
i think it is very yummy...coz they will always eat from my hand if i offer to them...
then when they lean forward to pull the hay from me, i purposely withdraw my hand, nearer & nearer to the hay ball, and then pull the hay abit from there....push to GP nose :) then let it know that the tasty hay they eating from my hand actually is available from this ball :reporter:
now both eating APD happily (and quite fast too) from the hayball...haha well i guess i worry for nothing...sorry for the trouble guys & gals

No leh Popcheek mine nv turn brown. infact i can keep for a mth and its still green and smells damn gd.. heehee... but it is possible that ur pigs ate only the green ones and left the brown ones in the hay ball?
Aft eating APD hay, my pigs won't eat brown hay anymore... haizzz.. so i spend my time sorting through brown hay and green hay. bo liao right?
U guys have to mix ur hay like u mix ur pellets when u change brands... so far i haven't heard anything negative abt APD.

Got small bits leh.. just like i mentioned the current box i m using now is all the very small bits.. this is the first time this occurred to me aft changing to APD in the last 1.5 yrs... i guess it depends on batches lor.. i might call my supplier up to ask him abt that.

i mean, when come home...still have the hay in the ball...usually its EMPTY (other brands)
and also, these 2 days the poo are kind of soft...although no increase in fruits/ veggy intake...
i read in webby....to increase the amount of hay & reduce veggy/fruits. But how to increase hay if they dun realli eat it :(
anyone interested in buying my 99% new APD?guaranteed still fresh, coz i dun open the package frequently, i take out some and put in other bag, so only open once every 3 days.

Are the hay strands long or short? The last batch of APD hay i bought had lots of short and brown bits...my fussy piggies don't really like it. :)

i dunno how long is long, how short is short :D
but ok lah green those in box..... in the end my pigs take out the hay from the ball and spread it around their beddings, coz this morning i saw how come got alot of hay on the beddings...not under the ball, but quite far away....Pupu think maybe she can grow a hay garden outside her 'box' home.haha

Popcheek its ok lah. ur pigs need more time to get use to it. for pellets its abt 1 whole wk before they will start eating. If i were u i would just cut down on veggies and give the hay... when they are hungry enough they will eat. u gotta discipline them not to be too picky also. or else they won't be able to get all the essential nutrients.
Don't sell ur APD hay and don't give up easily. BTW, hayball in my opinion is useless.. so is hay rack. cos if ur pigs have to consistently stretch for hay, it will be bad for their backs. Dun get me wrong. a little exercise is gd. but since hay is essential to their diet and they need to eat it constantly, u might hurt their backs in the long run.. My opinion only... must emphasize..
one last tip, dun overworry abt ur pigs. as long as they are taking in the hay, its fine. they dun have to finish it every single day.

Maybe put it at a lower height? Now my J J jumps off from his house somemore, like qing gong. Also kind of worry will injure his spine.

Prodigy, ur pig has something to grip on. not sure if Popcheek's hay ball is dangling in the center of the cage. then there will be nothing for the pig to hold on to. but i personally dun think its gd... cos pigs are rather heavy..
I just throw the hay in a fix spot everyday. surprisingly none of my pigs drag the hay around. I think they start dragging when they are bored. heehee....
Ahwen, jumping such a small distance (10cm) is ok lah.. i more worried that they injure their legs or rip off their toe nails.!

my water bottles & hay box all 15 cm above ground.. cos side of my coroplast is 15cm high... my hack rack is 7 cm off the ground... anyway they eat from hay rack only... haybox for show only...
popcheek

my hay ball is only 1.5cm above the ground...
the hay ball can use in 3 ways...i guess i will fix if on the grills lo, so will function like hay rack :)
