Hi,
Im new in keeping land hermits...can someone tell me why they are so shy. When i got them from HAHA Crab shop, they are nt so shy and i can see them crawling everywhere...so cute. When i brought them home, they always stay in their shells and never come out.
One more thing, can someone tell me whether they are able to survive in air-con rooms???
Thanks!

air-con room might be too dry for them.
Wet a sponge or a cloth and have it in the tank for moisture.
Try putting the tank away from the direct sunlight(window)
It might come out.
good luck:wave:

Hey!
They are naturally quite a shy creature. You should try to keep humidity in between 70-80%. Temp 21-28 celcius. I have had 13 crabs for over 2 years now and I find if you watch them at night they are more active. Give them things to climb on, and lots of sand for them to dig and molt in. HTH ;)

Hi Honeynurhoney,
I bot them at HAHA oso.. Bot 1 white n 1 red last 3rd Nov.. but then tis yr.. d white one moult n was eaten by d red one.
I told HAHA.. but they said they noe hw to hide. Indeed .. but then d red one must b v fierce able to dig d white one out.
Nw I m left wif d red one.. which is always hiding in d coconut hut .. once in a while it will soak itself in d little pond.
but for sure my palm was bitten by it once... that was for more than 10 mins.. making me pain n helpless..
Thus.. i m nt sure if they r classified shy or fierce.. haha..

Actually each one of them have different characters. Me and my friend bought one set each from HAHA...he is currently going overseas for a while and im also looking after his hermits at the moment. I noticed that when i let my hermits and his meet, one of them will fight while the other can co-exists very well with each other.....so i gez there are different personalities in each of them....hehe!!

There's a fish shop in serangoon north selling haha crabs, it's located 2 doors away from mt pleasant animal clinic (north), the shop itself is next to a private vet clinic.

I dun think they are selling the HaHa crabs, have visited their website and they only sell at bishan.
www.hahacrabs.com
Some pet shop are selling illegally or selling water hermit instead of land hermit. I saw once in Jurong one fish shop also selling but they are water hermit, think they pick from the beach even can see they are all sick and even got parasites in them...yeeekkk.
Think safer to buy from HaHa crabs, cleaner and easier. Cos they sell accessories n beautiful shells. I bought 2 from them last year and my crabs are so cute, I place them in the living room above my coffee table.
Oh yes regarding the moulting. I read from the website, think when found they are getting slower or seldom come out, can place them separently in different tanks so the other one cant attack the other. Mine survive hahhaa. And remember to spray some moisture inside to keep the moulting fellow from drying up and place few of empty shells for it to moved into. Very cute process.:p

Hello all, Ha Ha crabs at Hougang Mall are not very good, as the crabs have painted shells. View the link below. Ha Ha Crabs are also way more expensive than conventional shops. NurHoney, Hermit crabs need high humidity. It would be horrible placing them in an air-conditioned room. I wish you all, all the best in taking care of these critters.
