Hi Dango,

Thanks for the offer, a few donors had given blood today. One is suitable (but not sure whether blood will be rejected during actual transfusion) and the vet will be testing 2 samples tmorrow as jack was unable to provide a sample, guess his veins are swollen from all the needles. Not sure his blood type but was told that unlike humans, dogs have many different types of blood and in most cases blood typing is not practised. Even if it matches there could be rejection. Was told that most dogs do not reject a donor blood if he has never had a transfusion, guess we were unlucky. This is as accurate as I understand and registered what I was told. I understand your husband's concern, we wouldn't want your dog to suffer if it is not ready.

Hi Helen (& Rex),

Thanks, I will call you and make the necessary arrangements if the 2 samples do not match.

Thanks also to all who called & msg, guess I will be at the vet's till late tmr, thus may not be able to respond to the forum that quickly.

Thanks abby93 and all those who had contacted me to offer help.

As as update:after the transfusion, Jack's blood count is at 17.9% (on 21.1.06), still critical condition but an improvement. He does not seemed to have rejected the blood (it has been 24hrs) but was told that after his surgery, his bone marrow was not able to produce enough red blood cells. He is on some hormone medication to help jumpstart the production of red blood cells. They will check the PVC tmr to ascertain the status of the blood count. As Jack's owner, I still feel uncomforatble that he may reject any future transfusion (anyway the donor for the blood used for the transfusion can only donate in another 3 weeks) and will be contacting thoese who had offered in the morning to see whether they are available to bring their dogs down to take a sample to do a cross match

hi jackjack,

i think u would get more response by telling us here (if it is fine) which clinic to go to take our dogs' sample instead of calling u. as i believe some of them would not bother to phone u. however if their dogs r quailfy, they might jst drop by if they had read this forum.

jst a suggestion.
